Will Narcissistic Traits Make You a Good Leader?

As you may be aware, everyone cannot be a leader. Who can make a good leader?



You are born with certain leadership traits. Knowing your unique leadership traits and adding appropriate styles can make you a confident leader. There are different styles and types of leadership. It is your responsibility to choose the type and style that is most suited for your personality. There are lovingness and acceptableness for a leader. Those who are loved not necessarily be accepted. And those who are accepted may not be loved. It is difficult for a leader to be loved and accepted at the same time.

Mathew and Steve were leaders for their team. Both possessed leadership qualities. But Steve’s team was always ahead in discipline and productivity. They both possessed leadership qualities, hardworking and productive individuals, confident and motivated, empathetic and influencing. Both possessed great skills for a successful leader. Then what was special about Steve as a leader? When evaluated both the leaders’ personalities, one key factor that gave Steve more mileage as a leader was his narcissistic qualities.

The narcissistic personality is one of the common antisocial personalities we see among people. There are narcissist lives among us and we will not recognize them unless become their victim and get affected by their vicious actions. Narcissistic people are charming personalities. They are attractive and have a mesmerizing convincing power when interacting with people. They can lie without any guilt. They can fake confidence and are apathetic in a relationship. They are egotistical and have no remorse. They give primary importance to their classy image.

Steve has developed these typical qualities of a narcissistic personality such as logical empathy, protecting own interest, charming appearance and attitude, carrying a strong and confident image, egotism and inflated self-esteem, manipulating for gaining great impression for self, emotional numbness, an attitude of ‘aim is important than the mode’ and strong commitment to goals.

The best quality of a narcissistic leader is their visionary boldness. They will do anything to reach their vision. They are unstoppable once they put their mind into something. They give less importance to emotional behaviour and reject empathy if it affects the achievement of their goals. They are great risk-takers. Revengeful attitude and meticulous planning can lead them to success. Care should be given for not turning the revenge to be extreme vengeance or grudge.

Possessing some elements of narcissistic attitudes can make you a strong and successful leader. When you adopt and adapt to such attitudes, you don’t have emotions or empathy for everyone and everything. It is the hyper-empathy or the altruistic nature of a leader that make them loved but not accepted as a leader. It is good to be empathetic, loving, caring, but you should possess an attitude of a cold and unfeeling person when tough decisions are to be made for the wellbeing of the business. A leader who is not able to lead a business to success will not be accepted as a competent leader.

Mathew was a leader who was loved but not accepted as he did not bring the best results for his team. Love is emotional and acceptance is logical. Try to be an emo-logical leader as much as possible; if you cannot, then being an acceptable leader is advisable. A Leader must be a strong visionary to lead the team to success. Leadership mostly comes with power and position and many want to be a leader to enjoy the power and position. If you are not interested in power or positions, you can be an adorable leader.
